Intellectual Property Litigation

Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P., a national law firm based in Minneapolis, seeks an individual to join its Science Advisor Department in the Intellectual Property Litigation Group. The firm's Science Advisors work with attorneys during all phases of patent litigation. The scientists work with inventors, experts and clients. As core team members they focus on the technology, but also contribute to the legal analysis. Essential functions: 

  • Research technical information relating to a variety of products and industries; 
  • Perform initial investigation and analysis of potential patent cases;
  • Work with inventors, technical experts, and clients' engineers and scientists; 
  • Investigate technical issues related to infringement and validity of patents; 
  • Assist attorneys with validity, infringement and claim construction; 
  • Assist attorneys with technical issues in briefs, hearings, depositions, and trial;
  • Identify and analyze key technical documents;
  • Search for and analyze prior art;
  • Analyze file histories;
  • Work with other support departments within the firm.

Qualified candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Ph.D. in computer science, electrical engineering or a closely related field;
  • a record of strong academic achievement with GPAs of no less than 3.5;
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills; 
  • meticulous attention to detail.

Candidates with a M.S. in computer science or electrical engineering with work experience will be considered. Intellectual property experience helpful, but not required. Salary commensurate with credentials and experience.
