Practice focuses on trials, arbitrations, and appeals of civil disputes. He has personally handled litigation, tried cases, and/or argued appeals in 23 states around the country.
Represents clients in commercial litigation involving patent infringement, antitrust, insurance, fraud, unfair competition, business torts, and products liability.
Represents patent holders in federal district courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission in actions to enforce patents in a wide variety of areas of technology. He regularly handles Markman hearings, works with key expert witnesses, and serves as lead trial counsel.
Defended clients named as defendants in over two dozen putative class actions filed in state and federal courts around the United States.
In any potential dispute, works closely with the client to develop the relevant facts and law quickly so that our side defines the playing field and the client can make strategic decisions on an informed basis. We build trust with witnesses, implement an effective and efficient discovery plan, and, starting from the moment we begin working on a case, focus on a central theme and prepare for trial.
Chairs the firm's Pro Bono Committee. Handles pro bono asylum cases for The Advocates for Human Rights and serves on a steering committee for that organization's Refugee & Immigrant Program. Leads a team of firm attorneys who take asylum related caess to trial and who received volunteer awards from The Advocates for Human Rights in 1998 and 2004. Represented the plaintiff in Hassan v. Reno, a 2000 case involving a constitutional challenge to the scope of the government's power to deport. Received the firm's annual pro bono award in 2003.
