Going Green Start-Up Kit
Plug into established programs
You are not alone. Professional organizations, government offices, and local non-profits are but a few among many resources you can tap to power your program. If yours is a law office, join us as members of the ABA-EPA Law Office Climate Challenge. The EPA Green Power Partnership is open to any organization aiming to reduce its carbon footprint.
A simple online search for green organizations and initiatives in your community will guide you further still down a greener, more environmentally responsible path. And don’t forget: local utilities providers may be your best resource for identifying greener alternatives to standard business operations.
Additional resources include the “Green Business Guides,” available on the Natural Resources Defense Council website; GreenBiz reports and how-to resources, available at GreenBiz.com, and Daniel Sitarz’s Greening Your Business: The Hands-on Guide to Creating a Successful and Sustainable Business, available for sale at major bookstores nationwide.
Self evaluate
Internal audits are the key to setting realistic goals and monitoring your success. They enable you to identify which energy improvements are feasible and cost-effective. They also help you form a clearer understanding of the environmental impact of various business processes, and in doing so highlight areas in particular need of attention and improvement. Your audit will provide a baseline against which all of your green achievements can be measured.
Sustain your efforts, monitor your success, and celebrate your impact.
