Jenny Gassman-Pines, an attorney in the Minneapolis office of the national law firm of Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P., is the recipient of this year's "Arthur T. Pfefer Memorial Award" from the Twin Cities Cardozo Society.
The "Arthur T. Pfefer Memorial Award" was created five years ago to honor the memory of Art Pfefer from St. Paul, Minnesota, an aspiring lawyer who was tragically killed in Vietnam. The award is given annually to a Jewish law student or young lawyer in the first five years of practice who exemplifies current and future potential, outstanding leadership, and commitment to the Jewish and general community. Recipients should exhibit ambition and determination, show academic or professional success, and demonstrate a strong commitment to public or community service.
Ms. Gassman-Pines will be presented with the award on October 22, 2009, at the Cardozo Society's Annual Dinner.
According to its web site, the Twin Cities Cardozo Society is an affinity group for Jewish attorneys, judges and law students, affiliated through the Minneapolis Jewish Federation and United Jewish Fund and Council of St. Paul. Its mission is to strengthen bonds among legal professionals through educational, social and philanthropic activities, as well as communal involvement and opportunities for leadership roles.
Ms. Gassman-Pines practices in the areas of business litigation and health care litigation. She received her J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School, magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, and her B.A. from Wesleyan University with honors in English and Women's Studies, and election to Phi Beta Kappa. Wesleyan also awarded her the Baldwin Fellowship, given to a graduating senior showing the most promise of being an outstanding lawyer and public-spirited citizen. Currently, Ms. Gassman-Pines serves on the Board of Directors of Jewish Community Action, an organization that addresses social and economic justice issues in Minnesota.
