Anne Lockner to Receive 2009 Volunteer Award

MINNEAPOLIS (May 19, 2009) - Anne M. Lockner, a partner in the Minneapolis office of the national law firm of Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. and chair of the firm's Pro Bono Committee is being awarded the "2009 Volunteer Award" by The Advocates for Human Rights.
Ms. Lockner was selected because of her outstanding dedication to serving her client throughout over eight years of litigation before the immigration court, Board of Immigration Appeals, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Through Ms. Lockner's tireless efforts, her client was granted asylum, protecting her from deportation to Ethiopia.
According to The Advocates for Human Rights web site, the organization educates over 8,000 students and community members on human rights issues, and provides legal representation and assistance to over 1,000 disadvantaged individuals and families. The Advocates is governed by a 27-member Board of Directors, consisting of community leaders in academia, the arts, business, law and policy. They have received international recognition for a broad range of innovative programs to promote human rights and prevent the violation of those rights.
Each year, The Advocates for Human Rights recognizes outstanding volunteers whose pro bono service has gone above and beyond that of the more than 1000 volunteers who worked with The Advocates this year. The award will be presented to Ms. Lockner and the other recipients at the 2009 Human Rights Awards Dinner on June 23, 2009 at the Marriott Hotel- City Center.
Ms. Lockner's practice focuses on antitrust, commercial and business litigation, and intellectual property litigation. She is actively involved in the community, providing volunteer legal services to Children's Law Center of Minnesota and The Advocates for Human Rights. Ms. Lockner received her J.D., cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center, and her B.A in Political Science, summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota.
